Esk Water Authority (trading as Esk Water) was established on 25 June 1997 as a Joint Authority under
Section 38 of the
Local Government Act 1993, and commenced operation on 1 July 1997.

Esk Water is a bulk water business servicing the Launceston/Tamar Valley region in northern Tasmania, and is owned by the Launceston City, George Town, Meander Valley and West Tamar Councils.

In particular Esk Water's main functions are to: -

Collect, conserve and treat bulk water;

 ·

Sell bulk water both treated and untreated to member Councils, other bulk water customers and wayside users.

The core business of Esk Water is the provision, operation and maintenance of bulk water supply including its treatment to meet reasonable customer expectations.
